Feist / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Emily Gabbey the Dog needs a home

Thank you Gabbey Family!
" My family and I picked up our Joyful Rescues schnauzer/spaniel mix, Cosmo (now star of stage and screen!) the first of week of May 2016, three weeks after our beloved dog Harold d ied. He recently starred as TOTO in Penfield High School's production of The Wizard of Oz!  Our Joyful Rescue is one of the best decisions our family has ever made – Cosmo has truly been a wonderful friend and member of our family. For the holiday season, we thought that the best way to truly celebrate was to sponsor a transport on my family’s name. All four of our dogs (and our cats over the years) have come from various rescue organizations, and everybody in the Gabbey family recognizes the importance of animal rescue groups, and the dedication it takes to provide love and comfort for these amazing dogs and cats. My parents have owned three schnauzers – Daffy, Darby and Daisy – and my brother’s dog, Alvy, was a part of the family until he died this past summer at the amazing age of 16! My brother’s wife was the long-time director of the Baltimore, Maryland ASPCA, and continues animal volunteer work in Savannah, Georgia, so dogs are very near and dear to all our hearts. The “ Gabbey ” transport will hopefully not only save wonderful and loving animals, but also spread as much happiness to as many families as possible. We want adoptive Joyful Rescue families to have as much love and fun with these rescue animals as we have had with Cosmo." ~ Paul Gabbey
Huge thanks to Paul Gabbey and his Cosmo for such a generous, life-saving donation!

Emily was born about November 14, 2016 and will weigh about 35 lbs.  As for breed we are really guessing.  We just know she is adorable and sweet.  She has a ton of energy and would love another dog that would run and play with her.  She can be reactive meeting a new dog(s) so the introduction should be handled well.  She can also have some resource guarding issues with other dogs, but again adores being with her dog friends.  She adores her toys and the more mental stimulation the better.  Emily is highly intelligent and you can see her watching others or her humans and it is obvious she is taking it all in and learning.  I feel she could be taught about anything anyone would want to teach her.  She would likely be amazing at agility.  She is good about her crate and if the door is left open she will go in to relax.  She has too much interest in cats to live with any - chasing is just too much fun.  She has been good with children, but is a jumper so they should be old enough that they won't topple over.  Emily does show a bit of fear toward men at first meeting.  She's just a hoot when she gets excited, such as when you come home, and jumps up and down, up and down!!!!  She's been good about house training, but you may have a bit of work with a new environment and she has been known to use a potty floor pad when no one catches her cues.  So, overall I guess we can say that Emily is a dog that is not going to be your easiest, but may well be your smartest, funnest, funniest, dog that may just become your best dog ever.
